NASA x RISD Suits Club Work

                                                                           
As part of the NASA x RISD Suits Club, my team and I create this user flow which allows the astronaut to easily switch between automatic and manual navigation controlled by a joystick. 
The RISD team was a finalist for the annual NASA SUITS challenge in which college students 
from across the country help design user interface solutions for future spaceflight needs. 

This project was pitched to the members of the Johnson Space Center, Houston, TX. 
Designed on Figma. Developed on React by the developers team at RISD SUITS.  



01 Official Proposal


PR CON Overview:
PR CON is a dual monitor dashboard, serving as mission control, that encompasses the PR Map Module (see PR Navigation Feature A) and tracks all tasks, geological data, notifications, critical alerts, and telemetric data. Two seated PR operators will share a physical joystick to manually drive the PR in case of autonomous navigation error, and use a touchscreen to interact with the desktop displays.

PR CON Feature A: Manual Controls:
On the left monitor, the operators can view the Map Module, EVA tasks, XRF data, and warnings history (see Feature D). As we are designing an autonomous navigation system, we will also account for any errors in our Autonomous Navigation Agent by incorporating manual controls and an option for human intervention as a fallback. The controls exist on the top left portion of the monitor. The live map is displayed next to the control buttons to cross-check that tapping the controls affects the PR on its path as intended. The operators may use the Pause, Resume, Recall, and Manual Mode buttons at any point in the procedure. While paused, the PR operators can edit the original path, or choose to continue with the previous one. The Recall button will prompt the PR to return to base. The Manual Mode button will route the movement control of the PR to a physical joystick, allowing the user to control the PR manually.
